Sutter
Gold Mine offers guided underground mine tours of the historic
mine. Hard hats must be worn for the underground tour and
it is not recommended for children under four. Learn about
the history of mining in California and see where gold actually
comes from. Guided underground tours available daily, year
round. Not a whole lot of things to do here other than the
mine tour but it makes for a pleasant stop on a trip along
Historic Highway 49 in California's gold county.

Before you
go on the tour: the gold mine is a cool 64°F year round.
Shorts or jeans and t-shirt are ok, but inside the mine
it can get quite chilly. Bring along a sweatshirt or light
jacket just in case. Wear shoes with good traction, parts
of the mine are very muddy and wet. You can pan for gold
at Sutter mine, or drive a few more miles to Columbia State
Historical Park. First tour leaves at 9 am, last tour leaves
at 5 pm every day. Winter tour hours may vary.
