San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge

The Golden Gate Bridge was built in 1937 and spans the entrance to the San Francisco Bay. The bridge is one of the most recognized landmarks of the city by the bay. Visitors can walk, bike or drive across the second longest suspension bridge in the United States. There is a toll for cars and trucks but cycling, and pedestrian traffic are free. You can walk out onto the bridge from either side, but be prepared for windy and cold conditions.

The Golden Gate Bridge is located on U.S. Highway 101 and provides a link between the City of San Francisco and the counties to the north. Pedestrians (including wheelchair users) and bicyclists may access the sidewalks during daylight hours. The sidewalks can be accessed from the southeast parking lot or the northeast parking lot The walk across the bridge is 1.7 miles. A Gift Center is located in the historic "Roundhouse" on the southeast side.
