San Francisco Day Trips and Things To Do

San Francisco is dotted with landmarks like the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island, museums and has the largest Chinatown in the United States. Outside the city within a days drive you will find just as many interesting places to visit. There is everything from towering redwoods to hidden coastal towns all waiting to be discovered. Weather you decide to stay in town or take a local trip there is an abundance of destinations. Locals and visitors will enjoy these one day trips. Take a mini vacation to one of these local attractions and be back home in time for dinner.
 





 

 







China Camp State Park - The site of a fishing village on San Pablo Bay. The park is enjoyed by hikers and mountian bike riders. 1,640 acres of natural watershed along the shores of San Francisco Bay.
Angel Island Immigration Station - Take a trip back in time to the Ellis Island of the West Coast. After a major renovation on the surviving detention barracks tours will be available for the public visiting the island.
Fisherman's Wharf and Aquatic Park - Eat some fresh crab and see the fishing boats. Tours of Alcatraz Island and the bay leave from here. The Maritime National Historic Park is at the west end of wharf. Car parking is very expensive, consider public transportation.
Alcatraz Island.- One of the most popular visitor destination in San Francisco. The "Day Tour" is most popular. It includes round-trip transportation to the island and a walking audio tour. The view of the San Francisco skyline is worth the price of admission. Book early for weekends.
Presidio of San Francisco - Formerly a military post, the Presidio is a national park and recreational paradise featuring spectacular vistas, meandering trails, and historic and architectural treasures.
The Golden Gate Bridge - The Golden Gate Bridge was the largest suspension bridge in the world when it was built in 1937 and has become an internationally recognized symbol of San Francisco.
Angel Island - Angel Island is the largest Island in San Francisco Bay. Tours of Angel Island's historic sites are offered by State Park Volunteers. Tram tours, bike rentals, camping, and sea kayaking. One of San Francisco's best day trips.
Muir Woods National Monument - West coast redwood trees dominate Muir Woods. There are several trails that offer a variety of habitats and degree of hiking difficulty. Today the woods look way much of the Marin County land once appeared.
Winchester Mystery House - Sarah Winchester built a home that is an architectural marvel a 160-room Victorian mansion with three working elevators, and 47 fireplaces. Three different tours are available of the house. On a budget, visiting the mystery house gardens id free.
Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum and Planetarium - The museum houses the largest collection of Egyptian artifacts on exhibit in the western United States. located in the gardens of beautiful Rosicrucian Park, San Jose California. Admission to all Planetarium shows is free.
Napa Valley - Recognized around the world as a great wine region. Its wines are highly regarded for their superior quality and diversity of style.Napa Valley is home to more than 260 wineries with many offering tours,wine tasting.
Sausalito - A waterfront community that lies across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco. Sausalito is home to two major children’s attractions: the Bay Area Discovery Museum and the San Francisco Bay Model.
San Francisco Ferry Building Marketplace - Located along the Embarcadero at the end of Market Street the restored building house numerous shops and restaurants. A farmers market is open four days a week —Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

San Francisco Chinatown -The largest chinatown outside of Asia is about eight blocks and has two long main streets, Grant and Stockton. Here you will find souvenir shops, antique stores and restaurants.
