San Diego County has 42,200 square miles and stretches from the Pacific Ocean to the Anza-Borrego Desert. California's second largest city is home to the world-famous San Diego Zoo and Sea World. Just up the coast is Legoland and a short drive inland brings you to the San Diego Wild Animal Park. 70 miles of Pacific Ocean coastline supports year-round outdoor recreation, such as surfing, boating, sailing and swimming. Balboa Park - Over 85 cultural and recreational organizations here, including fifteen museums and various performing arts groups. San Diego Zoo is here. La Jolla Cove - La Jolla Cove is one of the most photographed beaches in Southern California. The cove is just a short walk to the restaurants and art gallery's of the scenic resort community.
Cabrillo National Monument - You can find base end stations, fire control stations, search light bunkers form World War 2. Also the old Point Loma Light House and tide pools to explore. San Diego Automotive Museum - Millions of local auto enthusiasts and tourists from all over the world to view this world-class collection. The museum stands as a living tribute to the automobile.
San Diego Aircraft Carrier Museum - Located downtown in San Diego at Navy Pier.The USS Midway has over 40 exhibits & aircraft on display. A dynamic experience "from boiler to bridge."
Pacific Southwest Railway Museum - Hands on display of historic railroad artifacts. Excursions and rail tours to California and Mexico are available. Located in Campo, California, about 45 miles east of downtown San Diego.
San Diego Harbor Excursion - This is a great way to get aquatinted with San Diego. Several different tours are available covering Point Loma, Cabrillo National Monument and North Island Naval Air Station.
San Diego Model Railroad Museum - Since its opening to the public in March of 1982, the museum is now over 3 million visitors. The museum is the largest indoor model railroad display in the world.
Star of India - The museum has one of the world's finest collections of historic ships, including the world famous Star of India. More than thirty scale models of US navel ships.
Bates Nut Farm - Picnic in the beautiful tree filled park or feed the farm animals. Farm antiques and tools line the walls of the Bates store that is filled with fresh, delicious nuts, candies, dried fruits and chocolates.
Palomar Observatory - Located in north San Diego County. The gallery in the 200-inch dome affords visitors a view of the Hale Telescope. Open to the public from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily
Julian - An historic gold mining town located one hour east of San Diego. Famous for apples and superb apple pie. Julian is also known as the B&B capital of Southern California.
The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch - Located in the rolling hills of North San Diego County This is one of the most spectacular and coordinated displays of natural color and beauty anywhere in the world.
The Lavender Fields - The lavender farm is located in the foothills of the Palomar mountains in northern San Diego County. Enjoy strolling through the various fields and listen to the constant hum of the bees busily collecting nectar.
Mission Bay Park -Largest man-made aquatic park in the country, consisting of 4,235 acres. Featuring five resort hotels, retail shops, marinas and boating rental facilities, and two camping areas.
Quail Botanical Gardens - The gardens features over 35 acres of exhibits, including rare bamboo groves, desert gardens, a tropical rainforest and California native plants. Located 20 minutes north of San Diego.
