The
Orange County Fair happens each year from mid
July to early August in Costa Mesa, California. The fair has been
around for over 100 years. Back in the early days the fair was
more about farming and agriculture although fair visitors did
enjoy some horse racing.
TheOC fair moved around to several different Orange County locations
until 1949 when it settled down at the old army base in Costa
Mesa. The army is long gone but the OC fair gets bigger and better
each year. For three weeks each summer almost one million people
visit the Orange County Fair.
Attractions at the fair included the usual carnival rides and
games including a huge ferris wheel, roller coaster, water ride,
and games of skill. If you like rides get an unlimited ride wristband
and save money over individual ride tickets. Getting twisted and
turned upside down should work up quite an appetite and the fair
has plenty of places to satisfy your hunger.
Food vendors sell ever tying from deep fried twinkies to frog
legs. Of course you can also get hot dogs and burgers if your
not into eating unusual food.
The Orange County Fair features competitions including best art,
vegetables, fruit, animals, flowers, home arts , wood working,
etc. Each winner receives a ribbon and in some cases a cash award. |
