New Brighton State Beach California

New Brighton State Beach is located in Capitola California. The park is sandwiched in between Coast Highway behind it and housing to the left and right. If your looking for an off the beaten path experience then New Brighton is not for you. Once you enter the 95 acre park and campgrounds you will find a very family oriented place for camping or day use. The beach can be reached by a stair case and a small trail. New Brighton Beach is long and wide and there is a row of fire pits further down. An access road the runs parallel to the beach if you want to avoid walking on the soft sand. Any hiking you do will probably be along the beach inland is mostly campsites. Nearby is Seacliff State Beach which is known for its fishing pier and the concrete freighter at the end of the pier. One nice thing about the beach is dogs are allowed as long as they are on a leash. So there is no reason to leave your pet at home. New Brighton was once known as China Beach and was the site of a Chinese fishing village during the 1870s and 1880s. The village inhabitants proved invaluable in the building of the California railroad, and provided Santa Cruz with fish, produce, laundries, chefs and servants. New Brighton became a California state beach in 1933.

New Brighton State Beach campgrounds are always well kept and have all the modern amenities. Bathrooms have flush toilets with hot showers. Each campsites has a fire ring, table and water spigot. The best spots are sites 69-82 they overlook the ocean. New Brighton State Beach is an extremely popular place to camp in the summer time. If you plan on camping here you will need to reserve a spot several months in advance. You might get lucky and pick up a canceled reservation. Keep checking the Reserve America web site. Look for the letter A in the date range availability section. New Brighton State Beach has a total of 111 campsites. The campsites accommodate tents and RVs up to 36’ in length. There are no sewer hookups. However, there are fully developed restrooms with hot pay showers in the campground and a sanitation station for RVs.
