March Air Museum Riverside California

March Field Air Museum, and the P-38 National Museum are located across the runway from March Air Reserve Base in Riverside, California. The Air Museum is home to over 60 historic aircraft.

Inside the main building you will find thousands of artifacts on display covering the years from 1918 to the present. The distinctive checkerboard roof can be readily seen from the Interstate 215 freeway.

Outside you will find rows of military aircraft from the 1920s to present day war machines. Some of the highlights include the SR-71 Blackbird and a B52 bomber. Allow about two to three hours to see all the exhibits and stroll around all the aircraft.

March Field Air Museum is operated by the non-profit March Field Museum Foundation. Its support comes entirely from donations, contributions, and the proceeds from the gift shop.

In front of the musuem in the courtyard you will find a Freedom Wall that has stone plaques inscribed with documents including the Constitution, Declaration of Independence and Gettysburg Address. There is also The Distinguished Flying Cross National Memorial and War Dog Memorial Sculpture in the courtyard.

March Field Air Museum

In 1993, March Air Force Base was selected for realignment. In August 1993, the 445th Airlift Wing transferred to March from Norton AFB, Calif. On January 3, 1994, the 22d Air Refueling Wing was transferred to McConnell AFB, Kansas, and the 722d Air Refueling Wing stood up at March.

As part of the Air Force's realignment and transition, March's two Reserve units, the 445th Airlift Wing and the 452d Air refueling Wing were deactivated and their personnel and equipment joined under the 452d Air Mobility Wing on April 1, 1994.

On April 1, 1996, March officially became March Air Reserve Base.
