Island State Park Camping Day Trips

Angel
Island State Park sits in the middle of the San Francisco
Bay. Access to the Island is by private boat or public ferry.
Angel Island is a favorite day trip from San Francisco and is
also a popular camping destination. Visitors are treated to views
of the views of the San Francisco skyline, the Marin Headlands.
Tours of Angel Island's historic sites are offered by State Park
Volunteers on weekends during the peak season. Over 13 miles of
foot trails and fire roads circle the entire island. Trails also
lead to the 788-foot high summit of Mt. Livermore. Bike rentals
and tram tours are available during the spring and summer seasons.
Angel Island activities biking (bring your own or rent), hiking
on thirteen miles of trails, tours of historic buildings, camping
and kicking back and enjoying the spectacular views. The Cove
Cafe deli offers food and drinks, bike rentals, and motorized
tram tours are available when the ferries are running.

Camping
on Angel Island. There
are four separate year round camping areas on the Island. All camping
equipment must carry in. Be prepared to haul
your camping gear for as far as two miles. All sites have water
and a pit toilet. No open fires are allowed on Angel Island. Camp
sites #1, #2, and #3, the East Sites, are on the east side of the
island, out of the wind. Camp sites #4, #5, and #6, the Ridge Sites,
are on the west side of the island, with views of San Francisco.
Camp sites #7, #8, and #9, the Sunrise Sites, are close together
with unobstructed views of the east bay. The Kayak camp has beach
access so that you can kayak to it, but you can also hike in. Campers
should arrange travel before reserving. Register before sunset at
the Ayala Cove kiosk or Ranger Station. Camping
reservations can be made up to seven months in advance. During
the busy summer season reservations are recommenced for the best
campsites. |
Angel
Island is open from 8 a.m. to sunset year around. Tours of Angel
Island's historic sites are offered by State Park Volunteers on
many weekends during the peak season. There are three different
ferry's that take you to Angel Island: Tiburon Ferry - Phone:
(415) 435-2131, San Francisco Ferry - (415) 773-1188 and the Alameda/Oakland
Ferry - (510) 749-5972. Dogs (except service dogs) are not allowed
on the island at any time. Roller skates, roller blades, skateboards,
scooters, seqways, and wood fires are also prohibited.
