Amusement Parks and Attractions in California

California is home to some of the best amusement parks and attractions in the world. Walt Disney started the theme park industry in 1955 when he opened the original Disneyland in Anaheim California. Since then the Golden State has become a leader if offering parks and attractions for the whole family to enjoy. Most of these attractions are located in Southern California and it will take at least one day to visit each park. Plan on starting your day early to avoid long lines at the most popular rides. Always check for special pricing and coupons to save money on entrance fees.




California Amusement and Theme Parks



Disneyland, Anaheim
The original theme park that opened in 1955. If you only have time for one place to visit make sure Disneyland is your choice. Small children will especially enjoy this park and will always remember their first trip.
California Adventure, Anaheim
This is the second park at the Disneyland Resort. Slightly smaller that the original park but filled with all new rides, attractions and shows. If you decide to tour both parks it will take at least two days to see everything.
Universal Studios, Hollywood
World's Largest Movie Studio and Theme Park. Conveniently located in Los Angeles, California. The park opens at 9 am on the weekends and if you arrive then you can board the studio tour with no waiting.
Sea World, San Diego
Shamu the killer whale, marine creatures and sea lion shows are all part of Sea World. The park has also added some exciting rides to add to your enjoyment. Located on Mission Bay in San Diego.
Knott's Berry Farm, Buena Park
One of the best values in California theme parks. Recently purchased by Cedar Fair they have been busy adding roller coaster and rides. The park retains its charm with the Ghost Town and Chicken dinner restaurant. If your on a tight budget this is your best bet.
Six Flags Magic Mountain, Valencia
This park has the largest collection of extreme roller coasters on the planet. If you like fast rides this is the place for you. The park has mainly thrill rides but is adding more family and kid friendly things to do to appeal to people of all ages.
Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk
California's only seaside amusement park. Located on the Monterey Bay, it features 28 rides including the Giant Dipper roller coaster. This is a classic California Beach park.
Paramount's' Great America
San Francisco's biggest and most exciting theme park. Family and kid friendly park with rides, attractions and shows. World's first reality coaster, survivor the ride, to open spring 2006.
San Diego Wild Animal Park, Escondido
Ride the Wgasa Bush Line Railway Tour to view the animals from the comfort of the train. For the more adventurous take the Photo Caravan Safari and get up close to the critters.
Six Flags Marine World, Vallejo
Six Flags Marine World is Northern California’s favorite family entertainment destination featuring world-class rides, once-in-a lifetime animal encounters and spectacular shows
Pacific Park: Santa Monica
Located on the world famous Santa Monica Pier the parks is LA only free amusement park. Millions of visitors each year enjoy all the rides, games and fun. A dozen rides, midway games, ocean front specialty food outlets and seaside shopping
Legoland - Geared toward younger children and families this park is located in Carlsbad, California. There are more than 50 rides, shows and attractions for a whole day of family fun. The park is located halfway between San Diego and Los Angeles. Lots of interesting things to see for kids of all ages.
